Pacu Jawi is an ancient tradition that has been circulated in Tanah Datar County, Sumatra. The tradition of the Bullfighting Festival has been around for hundreds of years. The original purpose of this activity was to kill the time and entertain the villagers after the harvest.

Unlike the Madura Island Bull Run, which runs on dry land, Tanah Datar County’s Bull Run Festival is held on muddy paddy fields. The peculiarity of the Bullfighting Festival is that the two races are not competitors. It is a partner. The criterion for scoring is whether the cow is in a straight line or the time it takes to run the runway.
